    Born in Delhi, Dev Benegal grew up in the cinema theatres of New Delhi on a diet of American and British imports. In 1994 he made his first feature English, August. Considered a landmark in contemporary Indian cinema, English, August is a humorous and irreverent study of bureaucracy and the Indian Generation X. Split Wide Open is his second feature film.


  • Producer: Anuradha Parikh

    Anuradha Parikh is a practicing architect who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. As a Production Designer she brings her knowledge of form and design to create the stunning visuals and production design in English, August as well as Split Wide Open. She has also produced the award winning English August which became the first Indian independent film to break the stranglehold of mainstream Indian cinema when it was acquired by 20th Century Fox and became a theatrical success in the country. This has set of a trend of movies which form part of the next generation of Indian cinema.


  • Co-Producer: Manmohan Shetty

    Manmohan Shetty’s association with the independent film spans several decades. He has singularly supported new cinema and produced some its greatest box-office successes. At present he is building the worlds largest IMAX theatre in Bombay.


  • Co-Producer: Suresh Thomas

    Suresh Thomas heads BMG India and in the last few years has made it one of the leading music companies in the country. A musician himself Suresh has been responsible for having discovered and signed some of the leading music talents and acts in the country.


  • Co-Author: Upamanyu Chatterjee

    Born in Delhi 1959, Upamanyu Chatterjee has written several award winning short stories among them being The Assassination of Indira Gandhi. His first book English, August published by Faber & Faber was released to rave reviews worldwide. Chatterjee has also co written the screenplay for ‘English, August’.


  • Screenplay: Farrukh Dhondy

    Farrukh Dhondy worked as commissioning editor for Channel Four Television for thirteen years. He developed the successful films Bandit Queen and Salaam Bombay and is also the acclaimed author of Bombay Duck and Poona Company Split Wide Open is his feature debut as a screenwriter.


  • Director Of Photography: Sukumar Jatania

    A graduate from the Film & Television Institute of India Sukumar Jatania has worked on over 200 commercials. In 1983 he worked with cinematographer Subrata Mitra on the Indo-Russian docu-feature Nehru.


  • Sound Recordist: Vikram Joglekar

    A graduate of the Film & Television Institute of India with a diploma in Sound Recording, Vikram Joglekar is also a trained classical singer apart from working as a consultant to Dolby laboratories.


  • Film Editor: Renu Saluja

    Renu Saluja is India’s leading film editor who has edited all the significant independent films in the country. She remains the only editor to have won the National Award for Editing thrice.


  • Music Composer: Nitin Sawhney

    Nitin Sawhney, is a young composer from London known for his unique sounds created through splicing traditional and electronic instruments. Split Wide Open is his first feature.
